Đánh giá lens tamron 28-200mm af for nikon năm 2024

I’ve owned the Tamron 28-200mm for Sony FE for a month now and thought I should write up how I feel about the lens now that I’ve had some time with it. When I got the lens, one of the first things I did was write up a comparison with example images with the Sony 24-105G. I posted what I found and have a link below in the Sony FF E-Mount forum. That post contains a lot of comments not just from me but other owners too. Rather than repeat it here it may well be of interest to prospective buyers to read it as well.

Since then where the test images were straight comparisons of the same scene at various focal lengths and apertures, I’ve had the chance to shoot the Tamron in a variety of places. I spent an afternoon at a botanical garden and was pleasantly rewarded with some nice images. There’s some and here’s one shot from there...

Though not full size, this reasonably demonstrates that even at 200mm, it displays good sharpness often the weakest point of a superzoom. In fact I’m yet to find a focal length where this lens doesn’t perform really well. Certainly the outer edges of my copy are good though there is some purple fringing at some lengths and apertures. It’s easily corrected in Lightroom and I expect the lens profile when available will take care of this. The built-in one that comes with the Raws doesn’t nor does it correct the slight distortion. For now, I’ve been using the Lr profile for the Tamron 28-75 reasonably successfully.

One very good aspect of the lens is its minimum focus distance (MFD). At 7 1/2” it is almost a macro. Not a great photo but given these little flowers are only about 1” across, you can see it can get in close.

I used the lens this weekend for my granddaughter’s 2nd birthday gathering. Most photos were candid and I used Sony’s Eye-AF very successfully and the lack of OSS didn’t interfere.

I added some background blur in Ps because the bag with the green logo was a distraction at f4.5.

I didn’t shoot down at f2.8 much as I needed some depth of field for most photos. So this family portrait was taken at 42mm/f5. The background blur has been enhanced in Ps as well because at f5 it was still a bit busy. But it does show how easy it is to nail focus as I passed the camera to another guest and let them shoot it. The A7RIII and lens took care of the rest.

Conclusion:

While the obvious target for this lens is the casual user or as an enthusiast travel lens, I’ve been impressed by its overall sharpness at all focal lengths and even from wide open through to f8. From f11 and down, sharpness falls off slowly as diffraction kicks in but it’s not like you couldn’t use it stopped down. And that would be important for some owners. I’d give Sharpness a score of 4.5/5.

Much has been written with Tamron choosing to start this lens and it’s brother 28-75/f2.8 at 28mm instead of 24mm. I really understand how some would feel about this especially since 24mm is almost the de facto wide focal length these days. But to achieve that, the lens would have to be much larger and heavier (this is slight smaller and much lighter than the Sony 24-105). Probably more costly too. If paired with an UWA prime or zoom, the Tamron 18-28/f2.8 for example, that narrower starting angle of view is largely overcome. Not the least the ability to either step back a bit where you can or even stitch a few images when the subject allows. In use, I’ve not found it much of an issue. I buy zooms to zoom. Which means I don’t spend much time stuck at the wide or long end. On the other hand, being able to zoom all the way to 200mm and that being at f5.6 with it still at f4 at 70mm and then f4.5 all the way to 150mm, means it loses little to the Sony and has the advantage of starting at f2.8 and is still only f3.5 at 50mm. That makes it very flexible and can easily be used beyond its travel limits.

Range/Apertures are 5 star IMO (given its size, weight and cost)

AF: Some owners have reported soft focus at times. I’ve had a couple photos that were not focused, but most have been dead on sharp. Tamron has reported to have found an issue and say they will release a firmware update soon. Hopefully this will remedy the few examples of soft images. I for one believe the copy DPR had for their sample gallery was an early model or even preproduction. Because most owners are reporting much better results and I’m totally happy with mine even without the firmware fix. Still it would be nice to have the confidence that that may bring. Certainly at my granddaughter’s party I didn’t get a single bad focus that I could put down to the camera or lens but rather my selection of focus mode or area. Still they were only a couple out of about 100 shots. I haven’t tried using for sports yet but I look forward to trying it out. Even so, I would likely use a different lens like my 100-400GM for sports anyway. But from what I have shot, a casual or family shooter just getting the kids at school sports etc, will probably be happy with the AF.

Focus: right now it’s a 4-4.5.

Do I recommend this lens? You bet. Tamron have hit a sweet spot of range, image quality, apertures, size and cost with this lens. It’s just so darned flexible with few compromises that interfere with good photos. Like I’ve said elsewhere it’s possibly the best value proposition in an FE lens to date. See the below link for example photos taken with both the 28-200 and Sony 24-105.
