Laptop sticky plastic

My entire Asus G73 turned sticky after about 1 year of usage.

Tried almost everything from oil, thinner, terpertine, talcum powder. Oil and talcum power worked for short term. After a while, it will becomes sticky again.

Found out in the end that Asus filled parts of the laptop with a ~2mm thick matt coat. I would hence need to remove 2mm thick of the stick coating to remove the stickiness.

My final solution is take a scraper and scrape the entire coating off the case. This will cause a lot of scratches. After that, take sand paper and slowly sand those parts that u missed out during scraping. Finally, use a fine-grit sand paper and sand it till smooth.

I'm now in the process of spray painting the laptop. Recently went to disassemble part of it to blast out the dust that has been causing overheating lately. Might as well go all the way and spray and hide the ugly plastic.

Looks like you need to waste a lot of time and effort.

How do you know your laptop has 2mm thick matt coat?

Before buying a product, how to know if a product uses the kind of plastic that will turn sticky or not? Is there some sort of specs or label to let us know if the plastic will turn sticky?
