Just want to note that I don’t do reviews often, I just used this product for a while and thought I’d share my thoughts on it, since there aren’t that many Primera reviews out there. Feel free to correct me if you think I got something wrong)

Skin: Combo/oily, slightly dehydrated.

Climate: sub-tropical, warm and humid.

Product description: Hydrating and refreshing without excess shine. A moisturizing cream for oily skin with dryness inside. Full description here.

Consistency: This turned out to be thicker than I expected – I guess it called a gel cream for a reason. Silica is listed as the fourth ingredient, which is probably why it feels so viscous. It does spread very well, although it certainly has that siconey feel to it. To give you a clearer idea, it’s thicker than Holika Aloe Soothing Gel, but thinner than Mizon Snail Recovery Gel.

Fragrance: This was very surprising to me, as it has very sharp herbal scent. I normally don’t mind scented products, especially herbal, but this smells pretty strongly. The scent really hits you over the head as soon as you open the jar, but it dissipates quickly and doesn’t linger for long. The reason I find this baffling is that Primera builds its entire brand identity around being ‘natural’ and ‘organic’, so why add the scent? On their website, they state that this cream is ‘5-free’, including artificial fragrance, but ‘fragrance’ is clearly listed as an ingredient on cosdna. I don’t particularly mind it, just don’t understand why it’s there at all, the product would feel a lot more ‘natural’ if it was unscented.

My experience: My skin is usually normal with oily t-zone, but in my current climate it veers more towards oily all over. However, daily BHA use has led to some dry patches on my cheeks. Supposedly, this product is for dehydrated, oily skin, so it seemed perfect on paper. In practice though, I found that this cream doesn’t really add much moisture at all. What it does do is absorb very well, giving that ‘bare-skin’ feeling, leaving my face matt and not sticky. It spreads easily, so you only need a small amount to cover the whole face. But I did not see it helping with dehydration, despite what it claims - I frequently found my skin feeling a little tight throughout the day. Basically, I need to make sure to use enough hydrating steps first, and only use this gel as an occlusive to seal them in.

To sum up:

Positives:

  • absorbs really well
  • leaves a matt finish
  • works great as an occlusive

Negatives:

  • doesn’t moisturize well
  • feels slightly siliconey
  • strong scent

Overall, I was a little bit let down by this product, but I did have very high expectations for it. I have no problem finishing up this jar, but I will not repurchase – considering a fairly high price point (35000W on TK), it is not worth it to me. It should work for you if you have very oily skin, live in a very hot climate, don’t mind strong scents, need a light occlusive and don’t have sensitivity to any of the ingredients. But if you rely on your moisturizer to actually moisturize, don’t like silicones, or have dehydrated skin, I’d pass on this one.

How do you use Primera Alpine Berry Watery cream?

Directions : Every morning and evening, after applying a serum and an eye cream, dispense an adequate amount and apply evenly to the face and neck.

What does watery cream do?

Water cream is used to moisturize the skin just like glycerin or oil-based moisturizer. Water cream, also called water-based moisturizer, may be the face moisturizer of choice for people with oily skin or combination skin since it can hydrate without adding greasiness to oily skin or oily areas of the face.
