I started using this Hatomugi toner while my skin was breaking out so bad and even my skin reacted badly to gentle products like Cetaphil. Luckily i got well with this toner and have been using many bottles for 2 years straight so i guess this is the time to write a perfect review Ingredient - Hatomugi for hydrating and brightening (new version contain 20%more hatomugi essence) My experience - It has watery and lightweight white liquid texture for fast absorbing . For hydration, it requires at least 3 layers , 1 layer won't feel like anything. ♡ It gives me a supple and soft smooth skin after using for like 2 months ♡ Using 3 layers under my make up, my skin is glowy but not greasy the whole day ♡ It makes my skin definitely brighter ♡ Don't notice soothing effect even using for a large amount ♡ When my make up is cakey, i spray this and patt with a sponge and cakeiness is gone Overall this is a quite nice toner for the amount 500 ml and price . Although 500ml won't make it last long if you use 3 layers like me. And it does not contain active ingredients so you can match with every skincare u want . Recommendation - all skin type especially oily skin (it neither makes you more oily nor contains oil control ingredients ) For sensitive skin types , minis should be tested first

The only thing is boring because it doesn't give noticeable changes . Alcohol was in old formulas but new formula is alcohol free so you should check this one out

But toners would come in as a savior, a mediator that balances everything out. Not only does it restore hydration and nourish our skin, toner also;

  • Primes our face to ensure maximum absorption of the products we put afterwards

But we still need to be cautious in choosing our toners. Just like picking out outfits, we need to make everything that we put on our skin, including our toners, suits our skin.

WHAT ARE THE INGREDIENTS TO AVOID IN A TONER?

Some toners may be overwhelming that instead of getting that magical boost, we’ll end up with more skin concerns instead. Here are the ingredients that are best to avoid:

  • High concentration of salicylic acid: Might cause irritation. In some extreme cases, it may cause peeling off the outermost layer of the skin (we don’t want that).
  • High concentration of benzoyl peroxide: Dries out our skin too
  • Synthetic Fragrances: May irritate the skin and cause a skin reaction (lord help us all)

So let’s try our best to avoid these ingredients in any of our skincare. We don’t want any problem with something that’s supposed to function as a magical skincare booster!

WHAT TONERS ARE GOOD FOR US THEN?

When you’re surfing on the internet, have you ever come across the word “Hatomugi”? Yes? No? Never? Well you just have.

Hatomugi, also known as Job’s Tear, is local to many Asian countries as a health food. Many have been using it as medicine. Many claim that it;

  • Helps lower the risk of diseases such as arthritis, allergies, high cholesterol, cancer, and more (marvellous).
  • Is widely used in skincare due to its great function as a super moisturising and brightening ingredient (even more marvellous).

That being said, Hatomugi is the craze in the skincare world right now which is why there’s a lot of Hatomugi products being produced left and right in the cosmetic industry. There’s Naturie Hatomugi Skin Conditioner and Hatomugi Skin Lotion A

Let me break down the reviews into categories so that it’s easier to understand.

1. THE BENEFITS

Since they’re both Hatomugi toners, the benefits are quite similar. Let’s take a look at them down below;

NATURE HATOMUGI SKIN LOTION

It’s multifunctional;

  • It can be used as a face toner, a face mask, as a general body toner, and a setting spray.

It hydrates and nourishes our skin;

  • Helps give moisture to our skin, naturally providing a good assistance for the absorption of other products we put on your body afterwards.
  • Contains Vitamin B1 and B2 that help with hyperpigmentation or uneven skin tone. Yay!

HATOMUGI LOTION SKIN LOTION A

  • Also multifunctional: can be used as a toner, a face mask, and as a body toner.

But if these give us similar benefits, then which one is the best for us? To decide, let’s go through the second and third categories down below.

2. THE TEXTURE

I would say the textures of both of these beloved Hatomugi toners/lotions are SO DIFFERENT.

NATURIE HATOMUGI SKIN LOTION

  • Water-like texture; super lightweight.
  • Lightweight texture makes it absorbed very fast into the skin

Commentary: Very refreshing to use every time since it feels like you're putting water on your skin. It also makes me less concerned of being under the Malaysian sun because my skin doesn't feel sticky after usage

HATOMUGI SKIN LOTION A

This fella is definitely more on the heavier side when it comes to texture so it's;

  • Suitable if you’re in a cold region where you need something heavy on your skin.
  • The product feels like a regular lotion but it’s lighter than a regular lotion but if we’re comparing it to Naturie Hatomugi, it’s definitely heavier.
  • Takes a longer time to be absorbed into your skin.

Commentary: I hate that I have to massage my skin for a while just to provide that assistance for a faster absorption. Still, if you prefer a heavier sensation on your skin, this one's for you.

3. SMELL

Since they’re Hatomugis, they kind of give the same type of smell. It’s just that Hatomugi Skin Lotion A gives off a much stronger hint of smell than Naturie Hatomugi Skin Lotion

Overall, I could say that both of these products do not have that perfume-ishl–sharp, intense, throat-drying, eye-drying–smell. Instead, they have a very gentle smell (not too throat-drying).

It really comes to preference when it comes to this category: if you want something stronger, Hatomugi Skin Lotion A is for you. If you want something gentle and light like me, Naturie Hatomugi Skin Conditioner is the answer to your desire ;)

4. THE PACKAGING

This part of the blog is to help everyone differentiate the packaging between these two products because as you can see, they look like fraternal twins.

Why the need to differentiate?

Because it could help clear the confusion when it comes to choosing Hatomugi toners. Imagine wanting the Naturie Hatomugi but ended up with Hatomugi Skin Lotion A and vice versa…we wouldn’t want that to happen, right?

Ok let’s get into it.

Firstly, please refer to the images below for better comprehension.

Skin Lotion Hatomugi Skin Lotion A

We could tell at first glance which product is produced by Naturie. Unlike Hatomugi Skin Lotion A, Naturie has its brand printed across and at the top of their product as such;

Secondly,

  • Naturie Hatomugi has the phrase “Coix Barley Lotion” spread horizontally right underneath the brand name while,
  • Hatomugi Skin Lotion A’s “Coix Barley Lotion” is spread vertically.

Thirdly,

  • Naturie also only has one visual of the pearl barley plant printed on its product while,
  • Hatomugi Skin Lotion A has two printed on both left and right sides of the product.

Lastly,

  • Naturie has the remark “fragrance-free, color-free, hypoallergenic” below the pearl barley print. On the other hand,
  • Hatomugi Skin Lotion A’s remark “Unscented and uncolored” is spread vertically beside the main product name.

Simply put, if you want to purchase Naturie Hatomugi, keep in mind that the brand name will be printed on the product. Other than that, it would not belong under Naturie.

So there you go! Choose according to your preferences and choose wisely so as to prevent getting the wrong Hatomugi toner ;)
