I'm looking at getting this card to use mainly with Max 2016 & Lumion, I've looked at the certified hardware lest that Autodesk puts out and it's not on the list. One would think the most powerful pro card Nvidia makes would work well with Max but I had a K6000 a few years back and it's performance was pretty bad. I'd like to find out if anyone is currently using this card and what their experience has been, is it work the money or is there another card that would work better?

Don't waste your money on a P6000, especially if all you're doing is Max and Lumion. If you have the money to blow then buy a Titan, otherwise go for a 1080.

Ok so both of those are considered gamer cards and I've always heard that they shouldn't be used with Max because the drivers are different. I like the idea of spending less but I'm afraid I may get stuck with a card that under performs.

High-end workstation cards are made for things like very large scale CAD programs, like Solidworks simulations and calculations. The drivers are optimised for these programs, but you'd never notice a difference in Max. For what you need it for it's just a waste of money. I'm pretty sure Lumion recommends 'gaming' cards anyways.

The old days of having a 'gaming' card and a 'work' card are long behind us, and unless you were using some specialised CAD software that demands a Quadro then it's a waste of money.

Is it possible to use the SLI bridge with 2 cards in Max to speed things up?

It would speed up renderings if you were using a GPU render engine like VRay RT, but it won't speed up the viewport. I'm also fairly certain that Lumion doesn't take advantage of SLI either. Are you struggling with viewport performance in 3ds?

Not really struggling it's ok but it could be better, I want to get something that will work in all situations. I'm running dual monitors so the thought was one card per monitor, I don't really do much with GPU rendering.

Besides the special cases of already mentioned OpenGL based programs the advantage of the P6000 is the 24GB VRAM. If you need this amount of RAM for CUDA based tasks there is no alternative at the moment (only the Tesla card). But otherwise it is simply overpriced.

If you can wait until January the GTX 1080 Ti should be the better (cheaper) Titan X (if it really gets 12GB RAM)

Maybe we'll see a Titan Black with 24GB later.

That's the rub, I need the card now so I can't wait and while 12GB is good 24GB is better even though it's 3 times more expensive. All things being equal the P6000 should perform just as good as the Titan X but I won't need to worry about running out of RAM.

Why do you need 24gb of VRam? It's usefull only for gpu rendering. For just viewports a 1070/1080 would be more than enough for 3ds max.

The P6000 is a gpu that' really useful and meaningful for very particular uses, and I don't think 3ds max's viewports is one of them.

GPU rendering is one reason I'd like to have a card with that much RAM, I also plan on using it for HQ VR.
