Splashtop silent install

My company recently signed up for your product with the understanding form another thread on SW that it has the ability to have a GPO based deployment, however I don't see any options for that under my account on the website. I'll need a silent install MSI package.

Thanks for signing up to Splashtop Business.

We can provide you with an MSI, but the MSI does not provide options to configure the streamer. So, we recommend using the EXE for silent installs if possible. Here is an article:

//support-splashtopbusiness.splashtop.com/entries/33196270-Command-line-parameters-to-silently...

Please let us know if you still prefer MSI package.
Fastest technical response will be via ... I'm a single person team at Spiceworks so sometimes a little slower.... thanks.

What do you mean you can't customize the msi package? That's the entire point of having one available. Most companies will just create and send you a custom MSI with everything you need in it, then I can just create a new policy and be done with it. Not being able to add the code to the MSI defeats the entire purpose of having one. This would be a lot easier than having to force an install of an exe.

Apologize.... this is on the roadmap, and will be added in a few months. MSI isn't customizable right now and the workaround is only EXE silent installs that's customizable.

I have asked the team to escalate its priority.... thanks for your understanding

This is a post I used as a determining factor when making the purchase recommendation to my supervisor for your product. It's disappointing to see that your earlier post was incorrect and now we've purchased a product that does not offer the ease of installation we were hoping for.

sorry, should have said [1] streamer/agent can be preconfigured... and [2] msi package also available..... two separate items, as MSI itself isn't pre-configurable, yet.

If the product isn't meeting your expectation, we can definitely process a full refund.
Please just email us , and our team can process.
Sorry about the misunderstanding.

I will attempt to use the EXE options first. But ideally, I need the product to self-install as new machines are added to our domain and not just run this as a one-time script for deployment.

Sorry, I'm only semi-technical in product details... so I want to be sure I can share what you need w/ our support & product team around "self-install."...

my understanding is every installer needs to be triggered by something, EXE or MSI.... is your set up that when a machine gets added to domain there are some scripts/tools that are automatically run. As long as Splashtop Streamer's EXE cmd-line can be integrated into those steps, then it becomes like "self install." ? THis should then work...

Well, typically you have an MSI that is either generated by the vendor or self generated from a control panel in the software. That MSI would be custom, having your installer code baked into it as well as any other settings that need to be applied.

Active Directory then applies the GPO to the workstations that are configured to install the software and a check is ran against them to see if the software exists. If it does not, it installs it.

In your case, this would install the streamer, apply the registration code and add the machine to the Splashtop control panel automatically.

confirmed. thanks for explaining. Make sense. I will share w/ our team. The customizable EXE today does include the reg code and add machine to control panel automatically.... user can also do one click download & install of the customized EXE. We will work on MSI next. thanks

Thanks. That would be ideal. Our users won't be deploying this on their own. I'll attempt to use the EXE in the meantime with a scripted install, but a customized MSI is really the way to go. I wouldn't think it'd be too hard, but I'm not a developer, ha.

I was able to get the EXE to deploy via a batch file and startup scripts in GP. Seems to be working as of now. I have some suggestions for feature requests:

First, since the deploy tool already has the ability to pull machine name, can we take it another step and allow it to pull [Or dynamically pull] the logged in user? Then we'd always know who's sitting at what computer.

Second, we really need the ability to lock the local machine's keyboard and mouse. I realize there is an option in the streamer control panel for that, but that's not really feasible if your user won't leave their mouse alone while you're trying to enable it. Doing this from the remote connection window would be ideal. Similar to Team Viewer.

Third, the ability to blank the machine's screen. There are cases where we might need to remote into a work station and black out the screen while we take over the machine without user intervention.

Aside from this, so far we are happy with the purchase.

Many thanks for the feedback... I will check w/ product team

* right now, we support "chat" so that's a way to check on whether people are in front of their computers...

*I think in the streamer deployment option... potentially, you could set the default streamer to disable local mouse control and also enable blank screen... not 100% certain.. but I have heard it either done or on roadmap... I'll check w/ product team.

thanks!

Having the default really isn't a feasible option either...typically we're doing remote support for users and need them to enter passwords and such. It's rare that we need lock them out of the PC, but it does come up. TeamViewer supports this option, but we're moving away from them for a number of reasons.

confirmed. thanks for input and we aim to continually improve the solution... enabling client side control to disable local mouse/keyboard/screen is what's needed.

@ColoradoFrag can you please share the step-by-step actions you took to customize the EXE and script for GP? I recently started a small [but growing MSP] and I'd really love to be able to put a script into GP and have Splashtop check for machines and then install it - trying to install this on 20 - 30 pc's on several domains is a pain. I already have my deployment packages created.

Thanks [and thanks to Mark @Splashtop as well]!

This is a simple batch file that just checks if the folder for Splashtop exists and if not it runs the installer, hidden.

The batch file and streamer setup reside in gposhare$\splashtopstreamer on our DC. I used GP startup/shutdown scripts to run this batch file at startup. That method will run the script before a user logs in.

Oh, make sure you add your splashtop deployment code in the command where the brackets are, and remove the brackets.

AWESOME! Thank you so much! I've never written a script before so I wasn't sure where to even begin, but this helps alot! Can't wait to try it!

Mine was a little trial and error, a little google, and I'm old school so I didn't bother with a powershell or VB script... good old batch files got the job done, haha.
