Ivy Tech offers the only associate degree radiation therapy program in the state of Indiana and our VERT program is one of just 11 such programs in the United States.

Radiation Therapy utilizes ionizing radiation in a strictly controlled environment to treat disease, primarily cancer. High-energy x-ray, gamma, proton and electron beams are common forms of ionizing radiation used. Ionizing radiation can be administered using external beam therapy or by placing a radioactive material directly into a body tissue or cavity. We offer hands-on learning opportunities such as Virtual Linear Accelerator [VERT], Radiation Therapy Treatment Planning System, and Clinical Rotations.

Ivy Tech campuses around the state offer 9 of the total 11 Respiratory Therapy programs in Indiana.

Respiratory Therapists are health care specialists who provide care for patients with breathing disorders. Care includes assessment, evaluation, and treatment of patients ranging in age from premature infants to the elderly. Therapists also work with adults who have chronic lung problems, such as asthma or emphysema. As a respiratory therapist, you must possess good communication skills. You will work side by side with physicians, nurses and other health care providers in caring for patients with lung disorders.

Our program offers smaller size classes that allow for one-on-one personal instruction during class. Students also receive additional training apart from the 500 hour minimum requirement by the state.

Those in the program will participate in a student run clinic that is open to the public.  There are also several field trips that include performing massages on specific populations of clientele. Our program gives excellent instruction and provides the perfect environment to become a top notch therapist.
