    Hi,

I'm facing this error "The remote session was disconnected because there are no Remote Desktop License Servers available to provide a license." while connecting remote desktop to the server [Windows Server 2012 R2].

Licensing mode was already configured, licenses were already installed and License Server was activated. But I still got errors in Licensing Diagnoser - Err 1. The licensing mode for remote desktop session host server is not configured, Err 2. The grace period for the remote desktop session host server has expired....

Any of my installed licenses are not issued to anyone. I have both Device and User CALs installed. I tried both and none is working.

Please advise how to solve this issue. As per advices from several forumns, I tried to delete "GracePeriod" registry Key but I cannot delete as Access was Denied! Please help. I've been struggling this for several weeks and none of the online tutorials seems to help me in this case. I followed following articles for Installation and configuration.

    Thanks in advanced.

use gpedit.msc and configure the below settings:

Computer Configuration\ Administrative Templates\ Windows Components\ Remote Desktop Services\ Remote Desktop Session Host\ Licensing

Use the specified Remote Desktop license server Enabled

Set the Remote Desktop licensing mode Enabled

Fixed my issue!! Works, glad to find this. Thank you for sharing!!

It's a year later, but wanted to say this fix worked for me. Machine throwing the error was a Hyper-V VM running Server 2012-r2 Standard.

Two notes for those who are as unsavvy as I was...

    1. "Use the specified Remote Desktop license server Enabled"

Under 'license server to use - enter the FQDname of the servery you're trying to connect to. My case it was

    "server.companydomain.local"

    2. "Set the Remote Desktop licensing mode Enabled" - Under "Specify the Licensing mode..."

I left it at the "Per Device" default.

Reboot - double click my old MSTSC shortcut - just like old times. THANKS!!!!

I am unable to launch the gpedit.msc by enabling the serial port and logging into it.

I tried to export and import the group policy but still I am unable to launch gpedit.msc through serial port using google cloud console.

When I go under licensing, the two options are already enabled. Anything else I can check for?

No idea why this popped up. Edit Deployment properties in step two showed the correct information but the registry items in step three were all disabled. The server was working fine until today. Editing the registry keys shown fixed the issue.

Perfect, after reading and trying multiple other "potential" solutions, yours is the one that fixed it.

    Thank you TP.

Hi all, if it is a Windows server 2012, not sure if can work in Windows server 2008 but if yes, do the next:
On your Server Manager go to the option Remove roles and Features in Manage Menu, then next, next, next and in Server Roles find if it is installed the "Remote Desktop Services", if yes, unsheck the box and uninstall it.

    That should fix/correct the issue

    Hope this helps..

    Hi

Not sure if the issue is resolved for you BUT

I had to do the steps below

Update policy with the server name to

set the policy for Cals [I used user]

    gpupdate / force

delete the Grace period registry folder altogether. [I had to add permission to do that else system didnt allow me]

    finally reboot the server

Now it works and I also dont get any Licensing alerts
