Dark amber-orange-brown in the glass. This is a wonderful sweet sherry. It's a blend of aged drier Oloroso and sweet Pedro Ximenez, but the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Honey, fig, raisin, orange rind, molasses, a slight medicinal note and almond. It's sweet, viscous but nowhere near cloying, and has excellent length. The 20% ABV is nicely integrated. An excellent sipper and is heavenly with almonds and dried fruit. Incredible value here. Dec. 2014.

Update Oct. 2018: Just tried this with Christie/Peak Frean brand chocolate covered digestive cookies - sublime!

This remains an excellent PX sherry, full of fig and walnut notes, certainly sweet but with acidity to balance. Tops the charts on the umami scale.

This has a medium-high intensity nose that's dry with oak spice and nutty aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with subtle nut, oak spice, molasses, chocolate and raisin flavours, all in a dry fashion lifted with bright acids. Spiced mid-palate continues through to the very long finish. Tasted Nov/2017.

East India is an appealing deep tawny brown, and offers a complex, mature nose of burnt sugar, spices, raisins, chocolate, walnuts and orange peel. It is sweet and full-bodied, with a smooth, almost treacle-like consistency, but good balancing acidity. There is a faint rancio character that adds complexity, and a fresh, everlasting finish.

"One of the finest sweet fortified wines in the world, this one has superior balance of everything. Medium to dark brown in color; a tremendous rush of toffee in the aromas, super alluring and rich; full bodied and packed on the palate; very sweet, superior balance; enticing toffee, rancio flavors, light brown sugar; medium to finish; endless love in the aftertaste. Simply super!”

This is a selection from botas of Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez raised separately and then blended to age for three years in solera. The result puts the sweetness of the PX in front, with flavors of plum jam and tobacco. The salinity of the Oloroso brings freshness and fine minerality that play softly in the background.

This traditional wine from Lustau is made in the Cream style. It's dark and pretty, with PX-ish prune and caramel aromas. It's not as thick as Pedro Ximénez, and thus isn't syrupy. But it's certainly rich and full of cookie, molasses, maple and brown sugar flavors. For anyone who likes a sweet Sherry that's balanced, this is a good place to go.

Inviting, with hints of orange blossom, raisin and pickled walnut aromas, smoked nut, citrus peel and peppery spice on the palate.

The origins of The House of Lustau date back to 1896, when Mr. José Ruiz-Berdejo, started cultivating the vines of the family's estate in his spare time. In these humble beginnings he made wines which were then sold to larger sherry producers. This activity was known as being an almacenista.

Lustau has repeatedly been awarded with multiple awards and trophies from around the world. These accolades have been achieved by the products and team, both considered best of the industry. The day-to-day work and the wisdom transmitted from generation to generation of craftsmen, come together in the care of their casks.

Sherry is a fortified wine that comes in many styles from dry to sweet. True Sherry can only be made in Andalucía, Spain where the soil and unique seasonal changes give a particular character to its wines. The process of production—not really the grape—determine the type, though certain types are reserved for certain grapes. Palomino is responsible for most dry styles; Pedro Ximénez and Muscat of Alexandria are used for blending or for sweet styles.

What does Lustau East India Solera sherry taste like?

On the palate it is smooth and rich at the beginning, full of prune and burned oranges peel flavours. Provocative spicy notes appear just before its nuttiness and terrific acidity cuts through the sweetness. With a truly unforgettable finish.

What are the tasting notes of Lustau Sherry?

This Sherry with a bright copper color has aromas and flavors of toasted almonds, salt, dates, and wood. It is beautifully balanced with a tangy acidity. Traditionally served before a meal with assorted salty appetizers and cheeses, this would also be wonderful dropped in a thick soup for added flavor.

What is a Sherry Solera?

Sherry wines are aged and blended using the solera system: a series of 3–9 barrels are used, and the method involves moving the wine down from one barrel into the next one. At the end of the series only a portion of the final barrel is bottled and sold.
