A new season of “The Voice” has arrived, with coaches Camila Cabello, Blake Shelton, John Legend and Gwen Stefani securing artists for their teams.

Here’s a breakdown of the artists on Shelton’s team.

Team Blake Shelton on ‘The Voice’ 2022

Jay Allen

Jay Allen started out the competition with Stefani as his coach. During the battle round, which aired Oct. 17, Allen was up against fellow Team Gwen singer Cara Brindisi. Although Stefani ended up naming Brindisi the winner of the battle, she decided to press her save button to keep Allen on her team — and then Shelton, her husband, used his one and only steal to snag Allen for his team.

“Jay Allen may cause a celebrity divorce,” said “Voice” host Carson Daly.

For his blind audition, Allen, a country singer, performed Cody Johnson’s “Til You Can’t.” At the time, Allen had his pick between Stefani and Shelton, a longtime couple that got married last year.

“Blake, he’s taught me so much about country music,” Stefani told Allen, a singer from Iowa who is now based in Nashville. “I got to be on 2 No. 1 country hits with Blake Shelton, which was just the most incredible experience of my life. And it made me so joyful to recognize that song (‘Til You Can’t’) when it came in, and to hear your voice on it. It was so beautiful. ... It was a really good performance, and I would love to coach you.”

During his audition, Allen also shared how his mother died from Alzheimer’s disease in 2019. She was just 54 years old. The artist wrote a song about his mother, titled “Blank Stares,” which he told the coaches has raised close to $50 million to help fight Alzheimer’s. Allen ended up performing part of that song during his audition, leading Legend to praise him for the way he uses music to tell his story.

bodie

Bodie defeated his fellow Team Blake singer Jaeden Luke during the battle round on Oct. 17. Following their performance of Justin Bieber’s “As Long As You Love Me,” the coaches had nothing but praise for both singers, although they did note that Bodie took the competition to a whole new level with his delivery. Bodie ultimately ended up staying on Shelton’s team — and Cabello used her one and only steal to get Luke on her team.

Bodie had all four coaches fighting for him after performing The Fray’s “You Found Me” for his blind audition. Shelton, who noted that he was the first coach to turn around for the 29-year-old singer from California, said he believed Bodie had “what it takes to make it to the finale of ‘The Voice.’”

“Let’s win this thing,” Shelton said.

Stefani called him a rare kind of performer while Legend said he liked how the singer brought his own soulful interpretation of the song to the “Voice” stage. But in the end, Bodie opted to go with Shelton.

Austin Montgomery

Austin Montgomery, 19, ended up beating Tanner Fussell,a 28-year-old singer from Nashville, during the opening battle round on Oct. 11.

After their performance of Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues,” the singers got a lot of praise from the coaches, who said it was a performance worthy of an awards show. Fussell didn’t get saved by Shelton or stolen by any of the other coaches, so his time on the show came to an end.

Shelton was a big fan of Montgomery from the start, following the teenager’s performance of Hank Williams’ “I Can’t Help It (If I’m Still in Love With You)” during the blind audition round.

Even Stefani, who was the first coach to turn around for the 19-year-old singer from California, said it would be practical for Montgomery — who cites artists like Williams, Jerry Lee Lewis and Merle Haggard as his influences — to go with country star Shelton. Legend noted that he could hear those influences in Montgomery’s baritone voice.

“You just sound like you’re straight out of the past,” Stefani said, noting how shocked she was that Montgomery was only 19.

Cabello added that she thought Montgomery sounded like Elvis Presley — “Our generation doesn’t have voices like yours,” she said.

But in the end, Montgomery said that he “for sure” had to go with Shelton, who said it was “a gift to have somebody like you (Montgomery) on this show.”

Hillary Torchiana

Shelton was the only coach to turn around for Hillary Torchiana, who performed Adele’s “Easy On Me” for her audition. Cabello said it was a risky move to sing an Adele song for the audition round because it would inevitably draw comparisons to the pop/soul star, but that she was excited to see what other performances the 34-year-old singer from Pennsylvania would do on the show.

Shelton admitted that he didn’t know “Easy On Me” was an Adele song, but that he had detected some “twang” in Torchiana’s voice, and that was enough for him to turn around.

Eva Ullman

Viewers only got a brief glimpse of Eva Ullman’s Battle round that aired on Oct. 18. The singer was up against 15-year-old Ansley Burns — who didn’t get any screen time — and the pair performed Taylor Swift’s “Wildest Dreams.”

“I think we could really see the contrast in the development and the experience singing,” Shelton said, ultimately choosing Ullman to move forward in the competition.

Viewers also only got a glimpse of Ullman’s blind audition, featuring a performance of Maggie Rogers’ “Light On.” In the end, Shelton was the only coach to turn for the singer.

“I can already tell you have that potential,” he said. “I expect some really awesome things from you coming up. ... I’m shocked that no one else turned around.”

The Dryes

The Dryes — a husband and wife duo from Nashville — performed the classic Kenny Rogers/Dolly Parton duet “Islands in the Stream” for their blind audition, and got the attention of the other married couple on the show: Shelton and Stefani.

Following the performance, Stefani noted that it would be her “dream” to do that song with Shelton, adding that she would love to help the couple move forward on the show. But ultimately The Dryes — who have been married for nearly 10 years and are completely devoted to country music — chose Shelton as their coach.

Madison Hughes

Although she’s performed in front of a camera and on social media, Madison Hughes told the “Voice” coaches that she’s fairly new to performing live. But that didn’t prove to be a disadvantage to the 25-year-old singer from Florida, who got the attention of Shelton, Stefani and Cabello with her country-infused rendition of Bob Dylan’s “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door.”

“I really loved your voice. “I also liked the fact that you’re a little bit of a melting pot,” Stefani said, adding that she’s also bounced around from genre to genre throughout her career, including two No. 1 country hits with Shelton.

Although Cabello told Hughes she would help the singer work through the nerves of performing live, the artist ultimately chose to move forward in the competition with Shelton.

Kate Kalvach

Kate Kalvach was almost finished singing Kacey Musgraves’ “Rainbow” when Shelton, Cabello and Stefani finally turned their chairs for a chance to snag the singer for their teams.

The pop/country artist was the final singer on night one of “The Voice,” but viewers had to wait for night two to see who she ended up picking. Despite Cabello telling the 27-year-old singer that she could be the “secret weapon” on her team, Kalvach, who is from Oklahoma City, ended up going with her first pick: fellow Oklahoman Shelton.

Bryce Leatherwood

After performing Conway Twitty’s “Goodbye Time” for his blind audition, Bryce Leatherwood ended up with three coaches vying for him: Shelton, Stefani and Legend. Legend complimented the “richness” in Leatherwood’s voice, and Stefani, who is married to Shelton, said she had a deep appreciation for country music despite not being a country artist. In the end, though, the 22-year-old singer from Georgia stuck to his country roots and picked Shelton.

Kevin Hawkins

All four judges turned around for Kevin Hawkins, a middle school piano teacher who performed a jazzy rendition of Stevie Wonder’s “Isn’t She Lovely” for the blind audition round. Sensing the artist’s similarities to Legend, Stefani used her one and only block of the round to prevent Legend from snagging Hawkins.

“Piano singer who sings Stevie Wonder, and I don’t have a chance to fight for him,” Legend said.

Although Cabello called Hawkins’ performance “flawless,” the singer from Dallas ended up gong with Shelton, who is the one remaining original coach on the show and has the most wins of all the coaches.

Brayden Lape

Although he’s only 15, Brayden Lape hasn’t had any sort of disadvantage in “The Voice” competition. The singer from Michigan ended up defeating fellow Team Blake Shelton singer Benny Weag in the Battle round that aired on Oct. 18.

After the pair’s performance of Parker McCollum’s “Pretty Heart,” Cabello said she was impressed that Lape is only 15, noting that his voice was “pop record friendly.”

Lape initially ended up on Shelton’s team by default as the country star was the only coach to turn his chair during the blind audition. But after performing Niall Horan’s “This Town,” Lape admitted that Shelton was his first choice anyway.

Stefani said she regretted not turning for Lape, and said she would “steal” the singer from Shelton’s team if the opportunity emerged later in the season.
