How can I fix black desktop background on Windows 10?

1. Disable Desktop icons

  1. Make sure that the Desktop is showing
  2. Right-click on the empty area.
  3. In the View section, untick Show Desktop icons, and all your desktop icons will disappear.
  4. Click on the empty area on your Desktop once again
  5. Go to Personalize from the menu. If you already using a theme with a single wallpaper, select some themes with multiple wallpapers. For example, Microsofts Line and colors theme, and right after that switch back to the default theme.
  6. Close the Personalization window
  7. Your Desktop should turn black without showing any wallpaper on the screen.
  8. To finally fix this issue, you have to turn on your Desktop icons once again and disable them again.

2. Update drivers

It is so important to have the right drivers installed on your PC for smooth performance. To do a manual update follow these steps.

Right-click the Start button, select Device Manager, and then select Display Adapter. Right-click the listed display driver and select Update Driver.

Finally, choose Search Automatically for Driver to allow Windows to locate and install the most recent driver.

3. Sign out of Windows

  1. Go to Start Settings
  2. Select Ease of Access

  4. Make sure that Windows background is enabled
  5. Select your favourite wallpaper and set it as your background image. Do this even if the desktop background is black
