Revit Issues Add-in is a free add-in that closes the gap between Autodesk Construction Cloud web-based applications and desktop-based Revit. It closes the gap between design review/coordination process and model design authoring process. It enables data flow back and forth between cloud and desktop. When issues are created and resolved, everyone on the project has insight into that. The add-in supports issues created in Revit models in both BIM 360 and Autodesk Construction Cloud platform projects.

Revit Issues Add-in was launched in December 2020 to enable users to easily access and visualize issues in Revit model. Those issues can be created in Autodesk Docs during the coordination process and updates to the issues can be made directly in Revit. The Issues Add-In is also available for Navisworks: Coordination Issues for Autodesk Navisworks. When you publish issues in Navisworks, note that the issue should be linked to the RVT file and not to the NWD file (only NWF files are supported) in order to visualize those issues in Revit.

This add-in provides a workflow that allows design managers to create issues within Autodesk Docs and to start communicating with the designers who are using Revit. With Revit Issues add-in designers can easily visualize the location and camera position in which the coordination issue was originally created in Autodesk Docs. When they click an issue push-pin on a 3D view in Revit, the original camera position and zoom factor is loaded, and the associated element (linked to the issue) is highlighted (but not isolated).

Typical workflow:

  1. Download and install add-in. You can download the add-in through the Autodesk Desktop App or through manage.autodesk.com. When you install it you will see a new ribbon tab in Revit called “Issues”. It contains only two commands: “Manage Issues” and “Reload”.
  2. Create issues in Autodesk Docs. The issues can be created in any BIM 360 or Autodesk Construction Cloud platform application, including Docs, Build, Model Coordination, and also in Navisworks. At the moment, issues cannot be created in Revit using the add-in. Also the add-in supports only issues created on 3D views in the ACC platform. Issues created on 2D views/sheets are partially supported for models hosted in BIM 360 (the push-pins are not displayed). If a model object was selected during issue creation, the issue will be linked to the element ID.
  3. Update issues in Revit. Review, fix and update Autodesk Docs issue within Revit. When you click Manage Issues it will open the Issues panel with all of the issues for the model. Push-pins are only shown for the current/active view. You can use the filters in the Issues panel to see issues assigned to you. Currently, the add-in doesn’t support displaying issues from linked models. Note that the push-pin position will be not be updated if you move an associated element. The add-in doesn’t support selecting a specific model version, only the latest published WIP/Shared model version (which includes issues from previous versions).

About Autodesk

Autodesk is a pioneer in 3D design, engineering and digital entertainment software. Though best known for its flagship product, AutoCAD, it has developed a vast range of software for the design, engineering and entertainment industries.

Autodesk was founded in 1982 by John Walker and 12 other like-minded individuals. The company launched their first original product AutoCAD that same year. Autodesk has since expanded upon a number of non AutoCAD-based products as well, including parametric BIM application Revit and 3D CAD modelling software Inventor. In recent years, Autodesk has made the move towards mobile and cloud-based applications including Fusion 360 and AutoCAD 360. Autodesk has expanded its presence in the maker community with acquisitions like Instructables and Pixlr.

Autodesk is more than just its products or its acquisitions. It had an impact on everything from education to the job sector and even on business sustainability and will undoubtedly continue to do so in the future.
