I find this mascara clumpy and it unfortunately does not give me much length. But for the price it is a good starter mascara.

Picked up this Maybelline the Colossal Volum’ Express Waterproof Mascara in Denmark. Its name is quite the mouthful. Is it just me, or is the Maybelline mascara selection here wider than usual? Hmmm. The quest for a holy grail mascara is on.

Let’s see how this baby fares! (Spoiler alert: Absolutely amazing, hands down new holy grail (HG) mascara.)

The Breakdown

• Volumising: Good, buildable volume with almost no clumping issues.
• Lengthening: Decent, but the magic in creating the look of long lashes is a good curl.
• Curling: Amazing, hands down. The formula is on the drier side and very lightweight. Few mascaras hold curl on my short, straight asian lashes, but this does. It holds a nice, sturdy curl, not too stiff or too straight. The key to a good mascara is curling. It holds a curl so well, the lashes appear longer and oh so fluttery from the front view, fanning out beautifully to frame the eyes.
• Staying Power: Yes, it is waterproof (tested with actual tears ;)). No, it isn’t smudgeproof. It can smudge slightly on the lower outer corner because of the oils from the hair/face.

Bonus: It’s easy to remove with a waterproof makeup remover.

The Verdict

This mascara is love! It holds a great curl, is lightweight, buildable and doesn’t weigh the lashes down.

While this doesn’t give crazy long and thick, va-va-voom lashes, its strength lies in its curling ability. Big lashes aren’t as impressive when they’re droopy, as our lashes aren’t on full display – think peacock feathers! We’ve all been there, haven’t we? 😉 I would recommend it for those who have difficulty finding a mascara that will keep your lashes curled nicely.
