How many virtual machines VMs Can you deploy on a Windows Server 2022 Datacenter Edition licensed server?
Posted by adrian_ych I have 1 ESXi host (128GB RAM with Intel Xeon 16 core CPU, VMware Essentials
Plus) that runs 10 Svr 2019 VMs (Purchased 5x 8 qty "2 core packs" from MSVL, aka 5 svr 2022 std licenses with 200 server 2022 CALs). I have 172 users. For redundancy, I added another identical server to the VCSA and enabled vMotion in Mar 2022. Now....How many Svr 2022 std licenses CALs do I need ?

How many VMs can I run on Windows Server 2022 Datacenter?Windows Server 2022 Standard is intended for lightly virtualized environments, and it includes rights for 2 VMs and unlimited containers. If you want to run additional VMs, then you will need to purchase additional licenses.
How many VMs does a Windows Server license have?Four VMs must run on each server, and Windows Server 2019 Standard is installed on each physical server.
What is the licensing model for Windows Server 2022?Similarly to the previous version Server 2019, the latest Windows Server 2022 software is licensed per-core. A minimum of 16 cores must be licensed even if your server has fewer than this - and any additional cores must then be licensed via the 'Additional Core' packs (sold separately).
How many Datacenter licenses do I need? Each processor needs to be licensed with a minimum of eight core licenses (four 2-packs). Each physical server, including single-processor servers, will need to be licensed with a minimum of 16 Core Licenses (eight 2-packs or one 16-pack). One core license must be assigned for each physical core on the server.
