Cấu trúc 1: Comparative and comparative [càng … càng …]

Short adjective – er and short adjective – er [dùng chung một tính từ]

More and more + long adjective

Ví dụ: He is taller and taller. [Anh ấy ngày càng cao]

He is getting more and more handsome. [Anh ấy ngày càng đẹp trai]

Cấu trúc 2: The comparative … the comparative … [càng … thì càng …]

The + short adj/adv – er + S + V, the + short adj/adv – er +S +V

The more + long adj/adv + S + V, the more + long adj/adv +S +V

The + short adj/adv – er + S + V, the more + long adj/adv +S +V

Ví dụ: The hotter the weather, the faster they walk. [Thời tiết càng nóng thì họ đi bộ càng nhanh]

Chú ý: Cấu trúc trên ta dùng hình thức so sánh hơn cả hai mệnh đề.

1. D. Dựa vào cấu trúc The + short adj– er + S + V, the + short adj– er +S +V và từ “good” là tính từ bất quy tắc và là tính từ ngắn nên chọn “the better”. Dịch: càng nghiên cứu nhiều về các loài có nguy cơ tuyệt chủng, tôi càng lo lắng về sự tuyệt chủng của chúng.

1. Harder/the better. “hard” là tính từ ngắn có quy tắc nên chuyển thành “harder”, “good” là tính từ bất quy tắc nên chuyển thành “better”, câu chia với câu trúc The + short adj– er + S + V, the + short adj– er +S +V. Dịch: Bạn càng làm việc chăm chỉ, bạn càng học tốt hơn.
2. More mature/more beautiful. Vì “mature” và “beautiful” đều là tính từ dài nên thêm “more” vào trước tính từ. Dịch: Càng trưởng thành, cô ấy càng xinh đẹp.
3. Less and less. Chia theo cấu trúc Less and less + Noun. Dịch: Càng ngày tôi càng lười.
4. Higher. Vì “high” là tính từ ngắn nên thêm đuôi “er” vào cuối của tính từ. Dịch: Tỷ lệ thất nghiệp càng cao, tỷ lệ tội phạm càng trở nên cao.
5. Hotter and hotter. Dựa vào cấu trúc Short adjective – er and short adjective – er [dùng chung một tính từ] và từ “hot” kết thúc bằng một nguyên âm + một phụ âm nên khi chia nhân đôi chữ “t” rồi thêm đuôi “er”. Dịch: thời tiết càng ngày càng nóng.
